BeClever, October 2025

Jonan Basterra·4 min read

Welcome to the October edition of BeClever, Clevergy's energy newsletter! As every month, we bring you the latest news from the energy sector. This month we talk a little about ourselves with the investment round we announced a few weeks ago, about a white paper we have produced on device integrations and about our presence at Genera.

We close a €3.2M round to consolidate ourselves as the technology partner for electricity utilities

A few weeks ago we announced the closing of a new investment round of 3.2 million euros, which will allow us to consolidate ourselves as the technology partner for electricity utilities in Europe.

With this new funding, we will continue to improve the product and expand across Europe, supporting utilities in the development of flexibility services and in building the decentralised, decarbonised and digital energy future.

In addition to our investors, we want to thank the customers who already trust Clevergy for this milestone.

White paper: API vs Hardware - How to integrate distributed energy resources efficiently

In a context of transformation and digitalisation, electricity utilities must make critical decisions about their device integration strategy. Hardware installed in every home or software platforms that connect via APIs? We have prepared a thorough analysis comparing both approaches from the perspectives of cost, scalability, security and customer experience, and which you can download free of charge.

The re-reinforced mode

The blackout of 28 April 2025 marked a turning point. Since then, Red Eléctrica has been operating in reinforced mode, bringing more combined-cycle plants online to stabilise voltage, which has significantly raised system costs, as well as wasting a significant percentage of renewable energy.

At the end of September, and despite the reinforced system, there were several episodes of voltage variations that led Red Eléctrica to announce new balancing measures that reduced the share of renewables in the energy mix a little further. We highly recommend Joaquín Coronado's article in El Periódico de la Energía, explaining the new measures and their consequences: the underlying problem does not lie in renewables, but in the system's lack of speed and coordination. It is like trying to solve a new problem with outdated solutions, as our CPO, Álvaro Pérez Bello, pointed out in an article about grid forming and about how the stability of the electricity system no longer depends on the inertia of steel, but on the intelligence of silicon.

See you at Genera 2025!

We will be present at Genera 2025, the International Energy and Environment Trade Fair, which will be held from 18 to 21 November at IFEMA Madrid, alongside Matelec in what has been called the International Week of Electrification and Decarbonisation. We invite you to visit us at our own stand, located in hall 6, stand 6A08, where you can discover how Clevergy helps utilities harness the full potential of energy data.

Book a meeting with our team to learn in detail about our smart energy solutions and how they can help you develop flexibility services and active demand management. In addition, if you need free tickets for the event, you can request them from us directly. It will be a pleasure to share the latest news with you and talk about the future of the energy sector!

Energéticamente, we talk about energy

Don't miss the two latest episodes of our podcast

  • Javier Colón (Neuro Energía), talking about the switch to the quarter-hourly system and the consequences of the blackout and the sector's technological challenges.
  • José Carlos Díaz Lacaci (SotySolar), shares his experience of the lessons that electricity utilities can draw from telcos. A conversation about customer experience, digitalisation, proprietary technology and the future of the energy sector.

You can watch or listen to Energéticamente on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcast or iVoox
