Batteries and energy management, keys to the future
Australia is a true benchmark in renewable energy and decarbonisation. South Australia aims to reach 100% renewable energy by 2027, and this year it has already exceeded 75%. To achieve this, it also relies on battery parks that a few days ago set a world record by covering 40% of instantaneous demand during the evening peak, cementing the region as a leader in advanced renewable grids. This milestone was recorded on Tuesday 19 November at 7:55 p.m., when the batteries delivered an impressive record of 611 MW.
Meanwhile, China is rapidly advancing bidirectional charging technology for electric vehicles (EVs), which allows EVs not only to charge from the grid but also to return electricity to it, supporting grid stability and energy storage, and enabling participation in demand flexibility markets. The country has launched several pilot programmes and a three-year national plan (2025-2027) to expand charging infrastructure, including around 5,000 new bidirectional charging units by 2027. Participants in this pilot programme are receiving significant financial compensation for giving up their electric cars' batteries.
